Work, Sleep, Play. Work, Sleep, Play.

June 15th 2009 in Employment, Morality, Ranting

Life has been eventful lately, so much that I haven’t even looked at a line of PHP in over a month. Which is slightly depressing.
Work seems to be increasing my hours, instead of my wages. Social life seems to have bipolar swings, which isn’t helping me keep track of friends or my sleep pattern.
Exhasted, fed [...]

Stop Inventing Frameworks!

April 4th 2009

I’ve just read an article, by Chad LaVigne, about how people are too busy trying to write their own frameworks for projects they have, whereas a framework should be a project in itself. I thought it was worth a mention.
This applies to my framework, Eventing, but in a good way.

I’m making mine because it’s fun, [...]

Testing out PHP Frameworks

April 2nd 2009

At the moment, my PHP Framework, Eventing, is being upgraded to version 0.3. Here’s the breakdown of the changelog:

Complete overhaul of the common functions.
Added /system/system.php. This is similar to common.php, but will not have global functions, rather a class to deal with HTTP, etc.
More use of config_items.
Extended SKELETON functionality.
Convert all possible quotation marks to apostrophes, [...]

ReThink my Job Application

March 24th 2009

Sent off a ZIP (why can’t 7z become standard already?!) file today, a collection of code snippets, files, projects, sites, design images, etc. for the latest job application for a PHP developer. Annoying that the only websites that I built are no longer on the Internet anymore. The one good one that I thought was [...]

Mother’s Day

March 22nd 2009

At the time of this writing I am sitting on the kitchen counter waiting for a seabass fillet to cook. It’s Mother’s Day, and I’m cooking my mother lunch! Starter is prawn vol-au-vents. Sounds quite appetising, apart from the fact I can’t stand seafood! I’ve also agreed to clean the whole house. Yes, the WHOLE [...]

WordPress for iPhone!

March 18th 2009

Just got the WordPress iPhone app update to 1.2, and now I can connect with this blog!
Before now, with the 1.1 version there was a bug that terminated the app every time I tried to add this site into its settings, but it seems that things are all going fine and dandy!
Well done Automattic, I [...]

Grunge Paper Design

March 15th 2009

As I’m writing this, I am extremely pleased with the design I am making for my first freelance (non-profit) client. It’s an amazing grunge paper style design, and with the lack of design skill that I possess, I think it looks like it was made by a professional!
It has, however, one flaw: It doesn’t really [...]

First Client Experience

March 13th 2009

The latest news so far: I have my first ‘official’ client for my freelance non-profit work, and I’m hoping to get work experience very soon (hopefully around 10 hours a week).
I haven’t written to this blog in a while, for a couple of reasons. The main reason being that I bought an iPod Touch.
Having an [...]

Eventing grows up into a semi-working Framework

February 10th 2009

Hey, folks.
If you go on down to the Eventing Testing Grounds, you will see that there is a working site!
It’s about time I got it working, and it will be ported to the main site in about a week.
I’m happy about it, so I thought it was worth a post!
Cheers, mniz.
